Engineer a product-centric ecosystem

Just-released survey report gives context to efforts, gains made at Crystal Technology, Inc., to improve management of product information through PLM

Crystal Technology, Inc., an EPCOS Co., headquartered in Palo Alto, Calif., is the world’s leading producer of lithium niobate crystals and high-performance acousto-optic components.

In the last several years, according to Fred Garderes, director, supply chain management, the company had experienced significant challenges managing product-related information in light of compressed design cycles, diverging product lines, increased customization, and outsourced production.

It turns out that Crystal Technology is not alone in this regard, says research firm Aberdeen Group, and a wide range of manufacturers are pursuing integration of disparate applications within a product life-cycle management (PLM) suite as the means to an “ecosystem” for higher returns from product investment.

Crystal Technology addressed the challenge by adopting PLM as the single source of truth for product information, and creating an integrated environment to facilitate sharing of information between engineering and manufacturing. Tune into this MBT Executive Broadcast sponsored by Omnify Software to be briefed on at least three key data points relevant to the challenge of managing product information in today’s dynamic manufacturing environment:
  • A briefing by Chad Jackson, research director, global product innovation and engineering, Aberdeen Group, on its just released benchmark survey report on “Integrating the PLM Ecosystem.”
  • A presentation by Fred Garderes of Crystal Technology on his company’s efforts to effectively manage product information using PLM.
  • A demonstration by Chuck Cimalore, CTO, Omnify Software, of a business-ready PLM solution with an open integration platform built on the Microsoft .NET Framework.

Following the presentations, the speakers will be available to answer your questions regarding the management concepts, IT infrastructures, case uses, and product technologies relevant to better management of product-related information.
